from the desk of Deborah

Remember how excited you were the first day of school?

As Catholics, we are all perpetual students. No one is exempt from studying Sacred Scriptures and the lives of the saints..

September 18th is the feast of St. Joseph of Cupertino,a Conventual Franciscan and patron saint of students. He lived from 1603 to 1663. His feast day is September 18th. St. Joseph would not have made it into Harvard or Yale but he prayed to pass his final priesthood exam. He simply asked the Lord what to study since there was so much material to cover. The Lord revealed to him, he should study the Gospel of St. Matthew. On the day of his exam, the professor only asked him questions on the Gospel of St. Matthew. Thus he passed.

At the end of our lives, we won't have a final exam. Why? Because our exam is a take home exam. Each and everyday we live or don't live a Christ like life will determine whether we pass into Heaven or not.

A special spiritual favor was given to St. Joseph and that was the ability to levitate. When he would elevate the Sacred Host and the Precious Blood, he would ascend several feet off the ground.

We may never levitate physically but we can lift our minds and spirits from the world we live in to Heavenly matters. So..please meditate everyday. As St. Joseph states, "We must not involve ourselves in things that defile the soul but soar aloft again in spirit to glorify the Most High God by our holy deeds."
